Background
With lyrics by Laurence French, this was the first song
we wrote together in recent years, i.e. not counting some embarrassing
attempts many, many years ago! I'm not sure what inspired this
particular political tirade (although the sentiments are as true today as
they were when we first recorded this about ten years ago), but I think the
brass and chunky guitars support the frustrations being expressed.
I recently transferred the original tracks from my old ADAT digital tape
machines into Sonar recording software, where I added some small extra
percussion touches, re-arranged some parts and re-mixed the whole thing so
it sounds a lot better now than when we originally recorded it..
In a way it's a companion song to C.3.3. (see left) and
someone did suggest to me that the two songs could provide a good starting
point for a 'mini musical'! That struck me as a quite a good idea,
although I don't know if Laurie and I have the stamina and spark to make
that happen. Who knows, it's an idea I'm still playing with, so watch
this space!

Last Stand For Freedom
1. They came
and took it like thieves in the night, we'd closed our eyes for too long.
When we woke up it had gone from our sight: 'don't know how it went wrong.
They took the land from under our feet, they raped the wilderness too.
In the field where the heart of the nation beats we'll make the last stand
for the freedom we know.
Chorus:
This is our last stand for freedom, the last chance we'll see.
This is our last stand for freedom for you and me...
2. The politician said "Trust in
me, and put your cross by my name."
But all I see is mediocrity; money rules, it's always the same.
They changed the rules so that wrong became right and a nation lost its way
of life.
Broken promises were hidden from the light, a people's
anger you could cut with a knife.
Chorus:
This is our last stand for freedom, the last chance we'll see ,etc.
If we take a chance we'll see it
through to the end.
Close our eyes another time, it's
too late my friend.
